Patmos has Few Beautiful Towns!

The beautiful Patmos towns and hamlets are the main settlements in the beautiful Patmos Island. The largest towns out of them are the port town of Skala and the capital town of Hora. The other beautiful villages in Patmos are Kambos, Diakfti, Grikos and Sapsila.

Here is more information about beautiful Patmos towns. The page includes also information about getting there, Patmos beautiful beaches, Patmos beautiful hotels and Patmos restaurants in addition to Patmos nightlife, entertaining clubs and necessary touristy services.

There are two ferry services between the beautiful Skala Town and Piraeus Port in the mainland of Greece. These services connect it with several Aegean Greek Islands on this sea route, including the beautiful Rhodes Island. Many local ferry services work on this line as well, linking to the beautiful Kalymnos Island and the beautiful Samos Island, Arki and Agathonisi.

Patmos has daily hydrofoils to Rhodes, connecting with islands on this sea route and reaching Samos and the beautiful Ikaria Island. A hydrofoil runs twice a week between Patmos and Agathonisi.

The catamarans, Dodekanisos Express and the Dodekanisos Pride connect Patmos twice daily with Kalymnos, Kos, Leros, Lipsi, the beautiful Naxos Island, Rodos and Symi.

The excursion boat, Patmos Star links Patmos daily with the beautiful Leros Island and the beautiful Lipsi Island. Patmos Delfini runs daily to Marathi and few times weekly to Arki. The Apollon Travel sells cross-islands travelling tickets in Skala. Other options are at the right column.

The Capital Town of Hora, Patmos Island, Greece:

Hora or Chora seems has nothing special to modern life and it lives in the past more than it exists today. Therefore, it could not be interesting for modern travellers, who like to enjoy some pleasures. It satisfies scholars and other researchers in history and theology more than it does for normal travellers.

The town has renovated white houses belonged to the wealth families during the 17th and the 18th centuries. The buildings in the white town start around the monastery of St. John and there are some paths leading to it from different places.

An ancient Byzantine path leads to it from the port of Skala. This path starts from the Hora-Skala road up to the town.

Walkers on this path come regularly from the port in summer, to enjoy walking and seeing some of the history of Patmos in its remains. All the monasteries here including the monastery of the Apocalyse belong to St John.

The Port of Skala, Patmos Island, Greece:

The beautiful Skala Town is well protected with its harbour and the town around the curve of the bay. It is a white traditional village and the port of the island.

The traffic on this port attracts most of the facilities on the island to concentrate in here in Scala, so it appears that it has more than the capital town Hora has.

It is the commercial centre of the island as numbers of businesses run in the port area and in the town.

The port is at the centre of a long coastline in the tight bay where the main quay lies and there is another port for yachts in Netia at the northern part of Skala.

The harbour road connects that Netia with the port and other places in the town. This road leads to the northern part and to the southern part of the island as well.

A main road starts from the ferry terminal across the town towards Hora, passing the hospital of the town at about 2.2 kilometres; almost half the way between Hora and Skala.

The main services are either on the ferry quay of within less than 100 metres from it. Among those businesses, services and facilities are the National Bank of Greece and the Commercial Banks with ATMs, at the port.

The post office, the police and the Municipal Tourist Office are all on the quay at the back of the passenger transit office and some hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and bars scatter in different places from the waterfront and up along the way to the centre of the town.

Those hotels in the Skala area are Effie Hotel, Blue Bay Hotel, Galini Hotel, Asteri Hotel, Casteli Hotel, Captain's House, Pension Maria Pascalidis, Suzana Rooms, Doatia Katina, Yvonne's Studios and Mathios Studios.

For more hotels, see the right column or the second section of the page below the form. If you knew about any hotels in Skala, please write about it through the form. Thanks.

One of them is the beautiful Aspri Beach on the right turn around the northern part of the bay, about 2.3 kilometres at the northeast of Skala.

Livaditou Geranou Beach is shady beach facing an islet with Agios Georgios small church. Some islets beside Patmos are only islets that take the name of the churches.

The beautiful Alyki Beach is about 7.9 kilometres at the northeast of Skala. Up to the north is the beautiful Lambi Beach on Lambi Bay about 9.1 kilometres at the northeast of Skala.

The beach has colored pebbles and is served by Psistaria Leonidas providing various fish dishes, mayirefta and other traditional food.

Livadi Kalogiron Beach is on Agios Nikolaos Bay about 7.3 kilometres at the north of Skala. It is shady beach by both trees and some rocky caves at the right side of the bay.

The beach has clear water, pebbles and small stones. The stretch of land between Cape Sardela and Cape Firos separates it from Lambi Beach at the east of it.

Secluded beaches are also available away from some beautiful Patmos towns. The beautiful Lefkes Beach could be sometimes one of those beaches.

It is on Lefkes Bay, about 5.6 kilometres at the northwest of Skala. Those are ten beautiful beaches in the northern and central parts of the island.

The beautiful beaches at the south start by Sapsila Beach about 2.4 kilometres at the southeast of Skala, on the eastern coast and down the settlement of Sapsila.

This is a quieter area as Lefkes and ideal for those who seek quiet beautiful places for different reasons. Among those reasons are readings and creational reasons.

The beautiful Grikos Beach is about 4 kilometres southeast of Skala. It is sandy and shallow beach with clean water on Girkas Bay.

Grikas is one of the beautiful Patmos towns on the hill. This beach is followed by the beautiful Petra Beach, which is on Diakofti Bay, below Kalikatsos Rock and is about 4.5 kilometres southeast of Skala.

The beautiful Psili Ammos Beach is on Stavros Bay about 7 kilometres south of Skala and is about 3.4 kilometres south of Patmos Town.

It is long sandy and shady beach. People reach it by foot from the nearby beautiful Patmos towns or by boats. For hotels on those beautiful Patmos towns near the beaches, see the image on the right column.
