The beautiful Pothia Town or Kalymnos Town is the capital since 1850 and the port of the beautiful Kalymnos Island. It is on the southeastern coast occupying the area at the back of the sea up to the heights. There are more than 10,500 inhabitants in the town. This number makes 64% of the total populations in the island.

Pothia is a large town and it boasts beauty by it nature and colourful white and yellow buildings between the heights and around the slopes of the valley and on those houses with beautiful wooden coloured doors over the hills that descend from the heights to the harbour.

Kalymnos has a good sheltered port between two chains of mountains on both sides that save it from the winds. The quay is at the north side. The central square Plateia Eleftherias is the centre of Pothia Town's life. The commercial centre of the town is on Venizelou, or Emboriki as the local call it.

The beautiful Pothia Town or Kalymnos Town is a busy town where the life of the island centred with narrow noisy streets, stone cobbled pedestrians, beautiful buildings, lovely nightclubs, lively waterfront and square and souvenir shops in the commercial centre.

There are three banks with ATMs near the waterfront. Those banks are the National Bank of Greec, the Commercial Bank and the Ionian Bank. The post office of Pothia is at the northwest of Plateia Eleftherias. The police station is near the post and the port police is at the eastern side of the port.

The Nautical and Folklore Museum is in the centre of the waterfront. It displays collection of traditional dresses and historical objects of the sponge diving activities.

The Archaeological Museum is in a neoclassical mansion owned by Nikolaos Vouvalis (1859-1918), one of the wealthy sponge merchants and kalymnian philanthropist. It is at the north of Plateia Kyprou and it displays Neolithic and Bronze Age objects.

Some beautiful villages scatter around the beautiful Pothia Town or Kalymnos Town and at the west of it. Those nearby settlements are on the valley that runs at the north of Kalymnos port. This is densely populated area.

At the left side of the road from Pothia to Horio is Kastro Hrysoherias, which is the castle of the Knights of St John, with a small church.

The beautiful site of the old Pera Kastro town is on the eastern side of the valley. People inhabited this village until the 18th century, which was a pirate village and is now a deserted village with crumbling walls including the ruins of stone houses and six small churches. People climb the steps that lead up to this site from Horio.

Horio or Chorio is on the heights about 3.9 kilometres at the northwest of Kalymnos Town. It is about 1,7 kilometres at the northeast of Kalymnos National Airport.

Panormos is about 1.1 kilometres from Horio, 5.7 kilometres from Kalymnos Town and 2.5 kilometres from Kalymnos National Airport.

There is a road lined by trees that run from Horio to Panormos or Elies as the local people call it meaning olives.

Panormos is one of the beautiful Kalymnos towns. It was once rich by olives but the groves were destroyed during the world second war.

After the war, the mayor planted many trees and flowers to build panoramic views and the name of the town was changed to Panormos. From this beautiful site in Kalymnos, people could walk to the beautiful beaches of Linaria, Kandouni and Platys Gialos.

The road runs from Panormos to the western coast and winds up to Myrties and its beautiful beach about 3 kilometres at the northwest of Panormos and continues up to Masouri, its beautiful beach and Armeos and its beautiful beach.

Those beaches lie in a beautiful site that has stunning views of the islet of Telendos from that point Telendos had cracked from the island.

From the beautiful Myrties, daily caiques go to Emborios at the northwest of Kalymnos. There are also some daily boats to Xirokambos in Leros and to Telendos Island.

The Municipal Athletics Organization organizes rock climbing and other water sports and touristy activities on this beautiful site of the the island of Kalymnos.
