Most of the museums of Caracas are in the centre of the capital city of Venezuela or near it. There are many museums in Caracas. Here are some of them to enjoy your visit.

The Plaza Bolivar with the statue of Bolivar occupying its centre is the cultural, historical and social centre in the beautiful Caracas City. Although, it is not a museum in fact, but this place is an open-air museum including in addition to the statue of the liberator, scenery atmosphere, some different kinds of activities and other beautiful scenes.

It lies in Simon Bolivar Centre in El Silencio District, at the end between Calle Sucre and Calle Paez. The Plaza is very near from the Congress in Caracas and Metro Capitolio.

Shaded by trees and surrounded by 30-story towers, the plaza is a busy centre and is full of live, political and other activities. The work in the statue of Simon Bolivar or Estatua El Libertador began in Europe in 1874. A ship carried the statue to Caracas into pieces, where they assembled and erected it in 1983.

The Museo Sacro de Caracas is one of beautiful museums of Caracas. It is at the eastern side of La Plaza Bolivar. The first time the museum launched was on 1992 in a restored colonial building from the year 1884 beside the cathedral.

It displays a selection of artworks. The museum of Sacro organizes some cultural events including musical concerts, theatrical shows and poetical evenings.

El Museo Sacro de Caracas is not the only museum in the capital city of Venezuela. The Museo Caracas is one of the beautiful museums of Caracas. It is on the ground floor of the Concejo Municipal. It features items about the history of the City of Caracas and exhibits historical paintings, some models of the centre of the city during the 19th century until the 20th century and a collection of dioramas featuring that period, created by the Venezuelan artist Raul Santana.

The Museum of Caracas has a first floor exhibition too and there are tens of paintings by the Venezuelan artist Emilio Boggio (1857-1920) from the 19th and the 20th centries. The artist spent many years in Paris.

The part of the historic town in which the building lies was a green suburb before that time in San Bernardino. Then the museum took the place as the museum of the colonial arts.

Before the Museo de Arte Colonial started, the ministry of education organized an art exhibition of this kind of art in the fine art museum in 1939. Then the association of the colonial art's friends established on 28 October 1942 to take care of this mission and started the Institution and the Museum of the Colonial Art.
