Beautiful Kefalonia Beaches - Which is Your Favourite?
Starting from Argostoli, the capital City of Cephalonia Island, the beautiful Kefalonia Beaches round the island, from this point and along the southern coast, the eastern coast, the northern coast and the western coast of Kefallonia. There are more than 22 beautiful beaches in Kefalonia Island.

The beautiful Beaches of Makris Gialos, Platis Gialos and Minies are the nearest beaches to Argostoli at the west in Lassi Peninsula at a distance of 4.3 kilometres that takes about 7 minutes from the capital city of the Island of Cephalonia.
Perhaps, being the nearest beaches to the capital city of Argostoli is not the only reason that Makris Gialos or Makrys Yialos Beach, Platis Gialos Beach and Minies Beach are popular.
Makrys Yialos Beach is wide and long, has beautiful red umbrellas, sun beds, and lovely sand. The green land over the heights up at the back of the beach gives it a natural beauty.
It is near the sand and stone caves of Platis Gialos and a line of rocks separates the beach of Makris Gialos from Platia Gialos caves. This is one of the most beautiful Kefalonia beaches and is a family friendly beach too.

Many people consider the Blue Flag Beach of Makris Gialos to be the best resort area in Lassi and prefer it than the other two beaches of Platis Gialos and Minies in the area. The three beaches are sandy beaches with crystal waters.
Those beautiful Kefalonia beaches are close to each other and very near to the airport at the south. Makris Gialos is about 7 kilometres away from the airport and it takes about 9 minutes to get there. Minies Beach is the nearest to the airport and about few hundreds metres from it.
There are ruins of the Doric temple from the 6th century BC in Minies. The development runs in these resorts to enhance the touristy infrastructure.
The beach activities there include paddleboats, water sports, as there is a water sport centre, and many other activities run by the touristy bureaus, many of which are British in Lassi.

The beaches of Lygia and Avithos are small pebble beaches with turquoise waters and golden sands under the heights. The white pebble caves of Ligia and Avithos are curved down green cliffs covered by pine trees.

Avithos beach and coves are the nearest sea resorts of Cape Liakas and the coastline turns there to the west to Spartia Beach and Lourdata Beach beyond Agios Thoma.
The beautiful Beach and Coves of Agios Thoma are about 9.4 kilometres from Ligia and Avithos and it takes about 16 minutes drive from Kaligata on a rental car. They are about 13.4 kilometres from Argostoli and it takes about 21 minutes drive.
The coves of Agios Thoma are small and sandy. People dive from a rock on the beach and there are some tavernas around. Along this area on the western coast and towards the east, there are some paths leading to many coves.
Hotels are few in this area and many people stay in Argostoli and visit by cars. However, to reach some places require more than a normal car.
The beautiful Beach of Lourdata or Lourdas Beach is one of the beautiful Kefalonia beaches. It is a very long beach below the village of Lourdata a Mount Ainos village and one of the beautiful villages in the Municipality of Livathos. See Beautiful Livathos Villages.
This is a beautiful white beach with coarse sand and pebbles. The beach has turquoise and clear waters and it offers good views over the sea towards Zakynthos Island.
The British lords used this beach during the 19th century as their resort. There are umbrellas and sun-beds, water sport and other activities such as horse riding.

The beautiful Beach of Kato Kateleios or Katelios Beach is one of the beautiful Kefalonia beaches. It is a small golden beach with pebbles and stones.
There is no soft sand to rely on in the beach. However, there are some umbrellas and sun beds on the beach and a kiosk behind the beach. It is on the coastal area of the beautiful village of Kateleios and there are some other beaches on this coastline along Mounda Bay to Skala.
The village on the coast was a small fishing village and the development to involve tourism might have been undertaken at this moment. Here is the second nesting ground of the endangered species of the Loggerhead turtle in Cephalonia Island.
There are many sun beds, umbrellas and some tavernas on the beach of Skala and some hotels in the centre of the town.

The beautiful Beach of Poros is one of the beautiful Kefalonia beaches. It is few metres from Poros harbour in the Municipality of Elio - Proni. See beautiful Elio-Proni villages.
It is on the southeastern coast about 12.6 kilometres at the north of Skala Beach and it takes about 14 minutes drive along the coastal road. Poros Beach is about 25.8 kilometres from the beach of Sami, Antisamos Beach and it takes about 30 minutes drive continuing on the same coastal road to the north.
It is not the only beach along this road from Skala Beach, as there are some unmentioned beaches from there to Poros beach along and beyond Cape Capri.
Poros beaches along this area have narrow pebble coves. A seaside hillock separates the mentioned Poros Beach from the harbour. It is a white pebble beach with crystal waters and there are some water sports there. The nearest hotels in this area are Hotel Oceanis, Makis Studios & Apartments, Sunset Studios and Poros Bay.
