Get Your Beautiful Greek Memories Legs!

Beautiful Greek Memories started to open my mind to connect some dots between my childhood and maturity and to indulge in warm feelings with the topics I am writing about, thanks to 100 Beautiful Sites in the World.

It is because of those beautiful Greek memories, that beautiful towns, villages, hamlets and beaches in Naxos attracted me recently to engage in deep searches and readings about them. I am engaged in deep readings about Greece in particular and about the Beautiful Greek Islands in general for some reasons.

Greece has always followed me in some pictures from my childhood. Childhood's memories motive me to know more about the people in my neighbourhood I played with their children while I was a child.

I remember from those children George Stratis, who had been elder than my age group and me and student in Camboni schools. I remember also two Greek girls in my age that time. One of them used to come to the preschool with her coloured eggs in Easter and invite me, making my mates envious.

The second Greek girl used to sit every day in the past under the pomegranate tree at the same time when I was on my way home from my father's boutique to sing while I was passing her house to mine in lovely Arabic tunes, "Mustafa ya Mustafa ana b'hibak ya Mustafa", meaning "Mustafa, hey, Mustafa, I love you, Mustafa".

It is not only that I have these Beautiful Greek Memories from my childhood, but also the great works in the Greek literature, Greek films and Greek music; such as "Zorba the Greek" and "Escape to Athena", (not in the Greek Dialects) that followed me while I was a teenager to enrich those lovely Greek images in my memory.

Mikis Theodorakis harmonized the backgrounds of those Beautiful Greek Memories. The notes of the musical scene and the shared dance between Claudia Cardinale and Telly Savalas gave them the lightweight of pleasures.

I actually danced with them out of the screen that time, until my mates called me the mad Greek. I was celebrating the real moment of freedom that time.

Following my political sense, I demonstrated at 11 o'clock on the street that leads to the Palace of the government calling, down, down dictator, disappeared among the crowds and fled my country. It was just a moment in another history and in another country.

However, it is hard for me to remember whether that had happened after this movie, after a political chat with a friend in one of the bars near the government Palace or after Z movie! Many pictures were mixed in those events.

Now, the Beautiful Greek Memories are vivid and they consolidate the process of reading more and building the Aegean Greek Islands, Ancient Greek Culture, Beautiful Greek Islands, Beautiful Naxos Island and Beautiful Naxos Villages.

Useful Resources

Zorba the Greek

- The original soundtrack of Mikis Theodorakis.

Zorba the Greek

- The great movie.

The reviewer says, if you think Zorba the Greek is a simple-minded homage to a man with a zest for life, then you haven't seen the movie.

Basil (Alan Bates), a reticent British writer, comes to the Mediterranean island of Crete to revive a mine his father owned.

On the way, he meets a Greek roustabout named Zorba (Anthony Quinn) and hires him to help, little suspecting that Zorba's exuberance will lead him to some dark and troubling places-- frankly, if the last 30 minutes of Zorba the Greek are what it means to embrace life, some viewers will want to shut the door in life's face.

Z

Costa-Gavras's Z, winner of the 1970 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, is a classic political thriller, combining intrigue with raw emotional power.

The story turns on the investigation of the assassination of a left-wing Greek politician (Yves Montand), and his government's attempts to cover up the murky circumstances.

Montand receives death threats as he prepares to give a speech condemning the government, and is then run down in front of numerous witnesses. Jean-Louis Trintignant (The Conformist) plays the judge assigned to the investigation, who gradually discovers how far the state will go to rid itself of political opposition.

Escape to Athena

The original British version of Escape to Athena ran 125 minutes; American prints were judiciously cut to 101 minutes, emphasizing the action content and neutralizing the duller dialogue sequences.

Roger Moore stars as Major Otto Hecht, an anti-Nazi German who presides over a World War II POW camp. The prisoners, played by such diverse types as Elliott Gould, David Niven, and Sonny Bono, plan an escape with a group of Greek partisans (headed by Telly Savalas).
