Among them, the Aegean Greek islands are beautiful and rich of many natural, historical, economical and cultural resources. The Aegean Turkish islands add a Turkish touch to the Turkish waters on the Aegean Sea and on few islands on the archipelago. More than 3,000 beautiful islands cover the Aegean archipelago with beauty. They breathe the scent of the ancient Greek culture that tracks the ancient Greek back before the Hellenistic period and the era of Olympia, Mount Olympus and onwards. Many yachts and sailboats in the Beautiful Greek Islands, some of which operate through tourism's bureaus and yachting clubs take visitors in wonderful sea tours sailing around the beautiful archipelago and from island to island as seen on the Greek Rhodes Island and the Greek Mykonos Island. You could actually enjoy your travel to the Greek islands, see, and discover beautiful Byzantine monuments, olive groves, forsaken monasteries, secluded coves, the scent of thyme and the sleepy villages on the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the Sporades, the Ionians and the Northeastern Aegean Group of Islands. Aegean Greek Islands The Beautiful Samos Island The Aegean Greek Samos Island covers 478 square kilometres in the northern Aegean. It is home to the Heraion of Samos, a great sanctuary with ruins of a temple and known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Pythagorion (Pythagorean), an ancient fortified port with Greek and Roman monuments and the Tunnel of Eupalions since 1992. The Beautiful Lesvos Island The Aegean Greek Lesvos Island or Lesbos Island and the major city of Mytilini, which takes the island's name sometimes stretches to 1,632 square kilometres in the northeastern Aegean Sea. The island is famous for its historical past and some poets, painters and writers. It has plenty of tourists' attractions in the historical sites, the beautiful villages, the beaches and the coves. It is a beautiful birds' sanctuary on the Aegean Sea, as well. The Greek Mykonos Island The Aegean Greek Mykonos Island became the top tourists destination with its entertaining nightlife and cosmopolitan features. It is charming, entertaining and beautiful place full of beautiful beaches and street full of scenes, stylized shops, restaurants and bars in the old Cycladic traditional towns. The Greek Rhodes Island The mountainous Aegean Greek Rhodes Island in Greece covers and area of 1,400 square kilometres in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea and is considered the largest islands in area and population of 117,007 and it has the major tourism industry. Many beautiful Rhodes beaches attract thousands of visitors every month during summer to the island to enjoy good vacations on sandy, clean and sunny beaches. The Beautiful Santorini Island The Aegean Greek small volcanic island of Santorini called also Thera with a population of 13,670 stretches to 73 square kilometres in the southern Aegean Sea and it has circular archipelago by the same name. Volcano and earthquake erupted in the island many times in the past and shaped it fantastically, reflecting even of the pebbles, the cliffs and coves on the beautiful beaches. It overlooks the Aegean Sea and covers an area of 3,684 square kilometres with a population of 198,130. The narrow Euripus Strait separates it from Greece. The Beautiful Naxos Island The Aegean Greek Island of Naxos covers 429 square kilometres in the Cyclades Greek Island group in the Aegean and it is considered centre of the Cycladic culture. The capital city Hora takes the name of the island sometimes. The Beautiful Chios Island The Aegean Greek Island of Chios is one of the islands in the Aegean Sea and is separated from Turkey by the Chios Strait. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the Nea Moni, a monastery from the 11th century located at the Provateio Oros Mountain. Samothrace Island (Samothraki) The Aegean Greek Island of Samothrace covers an area of 178 square kilometres with 2,723 populations in the north of the Aegean Sea. It depends on tourism and fishing and the other resources include basalt and granite. The only mountain in the island is Fengari Mountain. Alonissos Island The Aegean Greek Alonissos or Alonisos Island covers an area of 65 square kilometres in the Aegean with 2,425 populations. After Skopelos and Skiathos, it is the third important Northern Sporades islands, which make the archipelago along Greece eastern coastline and it compromises 24 islands. Delos Island The Aegean Greek Island of Delos covers 3,43 square kilometres near Mykonos Island and it lies in the centre of the Cyclades ring of islands in the Aegean Sea. The island is a theatre of extensive and continuous excavation because of its past. It is said that the island was the place where the first myths of Greece shaped. The myth says the island was the birthplace of the twins Apollo and Artemis. Telos Island The Aegean Greek Island of Telos or Tilos is in the Dodecanese group of 150 smaller islands and 12 larger islands in the Aegean Sea. Its name derives in the Greek mythology from Telos, the son of Helios and Halia. It has high cliffs and valleys walnut, almond and cypress trees. Kalymnos Island The Aegean Greek Island of Kalymna or Kalymnos is the sponge divers' island in Rosario Strait the fourth largest island there in the southeast of the Aegean Sea. It was known as Kalydna but renamed Kalymna in the 4th century BC. Kos Island The Aegean Greek Island of Kos covers 107 square kilometres in the south Sporades group of islands on the Aegean Sea with 30,947 inhabitants. It has stunning beaches, beautiful mountain villages and some other attractions. Leros Island The Aegean Greek Island of Leros covers 111 square kilometres with 8,207 inhabitants in the southern Aegean Sea and belongs to the Dodecanese group.
