This important to mention so as not to be confused with the largest islands of the Bahamas and the North Andros, which is the 6th largest island in the West Indies.
The beautiful Island of Andros is the second largest island among the Greek Islands in the Cycladic group of islands on the Aegean Sea after the Beautiful Naxos Island at the south.
The nearest islands to it are the Beautiful Tinos Island, about 3 kilometres far and the Beautiful Euboea Island, about 10 kilometres far.
It covers 380 square kilometres in the north of the Cyclades group of island and near the eastern coast of Greece.
There are 10,009 people living in this beautiful island in many villages. The biggest towns are Andros (Chora), Batsi and Ormos Korthiou.
The surface of Andros is mountainous in most of the island. Roads run among the mountains through the valleys across the island from the north to the south and from the east to the west even through villages with few populations.
In spite of the mountainous nature, the island has terraced valleys for wandering and has the most fertile land among the other Cycladic islands, where citrus fruits, olives, pine, cypress trees and plane grow.
There are Venetian tower-houses, unpainted stonework of farm buildings, slate walls, patterned dovecotes and cobbled footpaths on the main three settlements in the port of Gavrio, the resort of Batsi and the main town of Andros or as called Hora, or Chora.
This entire area comprises the three municipalities in the Beautiful Andros Island, namely the Municipality of Andros, the Municipality of Korthio and the Municipality of Ydrousa.
There are 4,107 inhabitants in Andros Municipality, 2,547 inhabitants in Korthio Municipality and 3,355 inhabitants in Ydrousa Municipality.
The villages in the interior are connected by bus services daily, as several busses drive between Andros (Hora) and Gavrio and via Batsi and reach the other towns, as well as taxis and rental cars.
Several settlements include Andros (Chora), Batsi, the main port of Gavrio, Ormos Korthiou, Aladinon, Kochylos, Epano Fellos, Mermingies, Zaganiaris, Ammolochos, Vouni, Kalyvari, Mesaria, Arnas, Vourkoti, Kaparia, Lamira, Ypsilou, Ano Aprovato, Katakilo, Makrotantalo, Palaiokastro, Apoikia, Vitalio, Kipri, Palaiopolis, Livadia, Varidio, Pitrofos, Sineti, Ano Gavrio and Piso Meria.
