Zakynthos Town is one of the beautiful Zante towns. It is known as Zakynthos Town, Zakinthos or Zante Town and is the capital and the main port of the beautiful Zakynthos Island. Zakinthos is another way to write the name of the town.

It is the cultural hub and the commercial centre of the Island of Zakynthos and it lies on the coast at the southeast covering 46 square kilometres in the interior of the island. There are more than 12,000 inhabitants in this capital.

The earthquake damaged Zakinthos in 1953, but the local authorities have managed to rebuilt it completely and restore most of its old buildings. It has neoclassical public buildings, wide arcaded streets and public squares, some of which are planted by palm trees and flowers.

The main square is Plateia Solomou or Dionysios Solomos' Square. It takes its name from the famous Greek poet Dionysios Solomos, the creator of the national anthem of Greece. Plateia obviously means square here. The second square is Saint Markos Square and the third is Plateia Dimokratias.

Two statues require mentioning in the first square, the statue of the poet and the Statue of Liberty. The second statue stands there since the 1960s to commemorate the independence of Greece in 1821 and there are bones, skulls and weapons of the Greek martyrs who died defending their country during the independence war.

Plateia Solomou is at the north of the ferry quay and at the back of Leoforos K. Lombardou, which runs beside the waterfrontand then takes the name of Leoforos Paraliaki when it turns east and then north. It is at the back of Leoforos Paraliaki.

Leoforos Paraliaki runs to the north and it takes the name of Dionysiou Roma (not to be confused with the main thoroughfare Alexandrou Roma) from this direction onwards.

Plateia Agiou Markou is at the northwest of Plateia Dimokratias. Just go ahead to the northwest passing Desylla and Leonida Zoi at your left. Plateia Dimokratias is at the north of Dionysios Solomos' square stretching until Desylla Street.

What makes Zakinthos one of the beautiful Zante towns is that the town is lively and naturally rich by beautiful views over the harbour, on the main squares and the main streets that are full of joy and happy people hitting their way to work at day and to enjoy at night.

There are some restaurants, cafes, bars, open by night supermarkets, shops, travel agencies, rooms, banks and bus station close to those squares and on the main streets of Lombardou, Dimokratis or Demokratias Avenue, Alexandrou Roma and Tertseti. Alexandrou Roma, the main street is the fourth street parallel to the seafront.

The first is Leoforos K. Lombardou, the second is Filita and the third is Foskolou. The National Bank of Greece is at the west of Plateia Solomou and the Commercial Bank is opposite of it. The tow banks have ATMs.

The Post Office of Greece is on Tertseti 27, one block west of Alexandrou Roma and the Hellenic Organization of Telecommunications (OTE) is on Dimokratis.

In addition to its main services, the OTE offers internet connection and it is open from early in the morning until midnight. The main travel agencies and tours are on Lombardou 78 and Lombardou 50.

The beautiful town of Zakynthos is full of rooms, studios, hotels and apartments. Those hotels include Alba Hotel, Phoenix Hotel, Hotel Palatino, Reparo Hotel, Hotel Strada Marina, Kryoneri Hotel, Yria Hotel, Alexandra Beach Hotel, Hotel Apollon and Diana Hotel. See beautiful Zante hotels.

Many other beautiful Zante towns are at the north and at the south of Zakynthos Town. They make the main resorts in the Island of Zakynthos. Most of those beautiful Zante towns are on the second section of the page below the comment form.

Tsilivi Town is one of the beautiful Zante towns. Situated on the eastern coast of Zakynthos Island at the north of the capital city, it attracts great numbers of tourists every year to the main resort in the Island of Zakinthos. The Town of Tsilivi is about 6.8 kilometres away from Zakynthos Town and it takes about 11 minutes drive.

It is near Planos settlement and the Beach of Bouka at the north of it. The town has a blue flag awarded beach. However, this is not the only beach on this coastline. See beautiful Zante beaches.

Near it at the north on the eastern coast are the other beautiful towns of Planos, Katragaki, Ammos, Gerakan, Ammoudi, Alikanas and Alikes. Those towns are the most beautiful Zante towns on the central eastern coast and the beaches are accessible by boats too from the capital of the island.

Tsilivi Town is naturally rich and green covered by vineyards, wildflowers and grass and is convenient for families to stay for couple of days. Many passages from the main streets lead to the small harbour and the beautiful beach through olive trees.

The town has some tavernas, bars, nightclubs, supermarkets, gift shops, pool tubes, water park called the water park of Tsilivi or the water park of Zante, golf areas, studios, apartments and hotels such as Lazaros Hotel Apartments, Dinos Hotel, Zante Planos Bay Hotel, Rania Studios, Pantheon Hotel and Mavrias Village Apartments. See beautiful Zante hotels.

Alykanas Town or Alikanas Town is one of the beautiful Zante towns. It lies on the Municipality of Alykes on the main road that runs from Zakynthos along the coastline to Volimes on the north. See Zante municipalities.

The road to it from Zakynthos is about 15.1 kilometres long and it takes about 21 minutes drive. It is about 10.4 kilometres northwest of Tsilivi resort and it takes about 16 minutes drive.

The nature is beautiful here too and it gives Alykanas a blessing as this traditional Greek village lies in the heart of the vineyards, the pines and the olive groves that run along the way down to the coast.

The settlements of Alikanas and Alikes have merged to form one bigger settlement. There are 341 inhabitants in Alykanas according to the census of 2001.

However, the number of inhabitants is now more than this number. Seemingly, the inhabitants only on the main street area on the centre of the town are more than that mentioned number.

The distance between the two villages is merely one kilometre. Alikes has saltpans and a narrow beach and it takes its name from the salt trade. However, here is also another popular resort in Zakynthos Island that attracts tourists from around the world.

Real estates agents have a prosperous environment in this area. The resort of Alykanas has many hotels, rooms, apartment and studios such as Alykanas Village Hotel, Hotel Ionian Star, Antonio Studios, Camping Alikes Papagos, Angela Studios and Hotel Montreal. See beautiful Zante hotels.

Laganas Town lies on the wide Bay of Laganas at the southern coast of Zakynthos Island. It is one of the beautiful Zante towns and the largest resort centre in the Island of Zante.

Lagans village resort belongs to the Municipality of Laganas. However, it is not the seat of the municipality. The seat of the municipality is Pantokrator.

There are more than 543 inhabitants in Laganas Town. This Greek village is rich by nature. Olive groves and vineyards cover the land and the area has a large bay.

The Bay of Laganas is the main nesting ground for the endangered loggerhead turtles in Zakinthos. The green flat land stretches behind the coast and the beautiful beaches there. See beautiful Zante beaches and Zante municipalities.

The town is about 8.2 kilometres at the southwest of Zakinthos Town and it takes about 14 minutes drive. It is only 7 kilometres at the southwest of Zakynthos Dionysios Solomos International Airport and it takes about 11 minutes drive.

There are all sorts of restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, shops, and hotels in this area. The hotels include but not limited to the following, Park Hotel, Helen Studios, Hotel Maria, Ionia Hotel, Poseidon Beach Hotel, Eugenia Hotel, Villa Koukla and Astir Palace and Astir Beach Hotel.
