The beautiful Patmos Island in the Greek Mythology:

The Greek legend says the original name of Patmos is Letois, named after Leto, the mother of the twins the goddess Artemis and Apollo from Zeus. She was a daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe.

Patmos was created in the bottom of the sea and Artemis as deer huntress used to visit Caria, the mainland from the shore of Patmos, where she had a shrine on Mount Latmos.

At the top of the mountain, she used to meet with Selene, the moon goddess. Selene has a light on the ocean that believed to reveal the sunken Island of Patmos.

She tried continuously to get Artemis to bring the sunken island to the surface and life and she convinced her at last.

Artemis sought the help of her brother Apollo in order to persuade Zeus to allow the island to arise from the sea.

When Zeus accepted that, the island emerged from the water. The sun dried the island and gave it life. The Inhabitants arrived from the surroundings to settle on the beautiful Patmos Island and named it Letois.
